Better Late Than Never

This is an editorial we shot one year ago for a specific publication that unfortunately never got off the ground.  Fashion Copious to the rescue published it for us last month here.

In Winter - a play by Brittany Babbot

My good friend Brittany Babbot has written, directed and stared in the beautiful performance In Winter as part of Taking Flight Festival of Student Work at the University of Calgary. Brit has been working tirelessly the last 5 months plus to actualize her vision and boy did she ever make it count. I went to the matinée performance this afternoon and was blown away by the simple but gorgeous set design and costumes. The story, while geared towards a younger audience was captivating and haunting.

You have one more chance to see it this Saturday April 7th at 7PM. Make sure you get there early if you don't purchase tickets online.

On Set With A Soon To Be Calgary Icon

Woah! Just noticed how long it's been since my last post....my best friend had a baby, does that count as a good excuse?

Before my dear friends Wilkosz & Way moved their careers and lives to Berlin, I had a chance to shoot with them a few more times.  One of the shoots was the beautiful light reflecting Samantha Savage Smith.  This girl is not only a talented singer songwriter but also truly lovely to style and shoot.

Here are a few behind the scene shots from the day. I can't wait to see the finals!

Stormy Weather on Stormy Mountain

Back in October I was lucky enough to be asked to assist the Fashion Editor for the Globe and Mail on location at Storm Mountain Lodge near Banff. I was in great company as my close pals Wilkosz & Way were the photographers and Alicja Wilkosz was the make-up artist as well as my cabin roommate. The lodge was extremely welcoming of us and the food was homemade, hearty and delicious.

The spread in the Globe & Mail above. Some shots of the location and behind the scenes below.

Jewelry Jam

I thought I would devote a post to some of the talented jewelry designers I know (and some I wish I new).

First up is Ebony Fleur, one of two incredible ladies behind Make Believe. Ebony has branched out on her own and is creating beautiful bold geometric pieces. Wilkosz & Way shot her look book recently and I was there to help with the styling logistics. Gorgeous Johanna Stickland modelled for it. Here are some of the shots. Make up by Alicja Wilkosz.

Next is Dara Humniski, one of the talented Loyal Loot Collective. Dara is a multi-talented artist, designer and all around amazing friend and human being. Dara started making jewelry last year and seems to have a natural knack for it (like everything she puts her hand to). Here are a few of my favourite pieces. She just launched a new website that showcases all of her work. Check it out here.

The next designer, Bjørg I don't know but wish I did! She has some truly unique and covet worthy pieces and a really haunting video look book.  I love love love the Odyssey collection which is featured below along with the video.

And last but not least is my friend Erin Ignacio who goes by John James in the professional world, is a talented artist and graphic designer on top of being a fantastical jewelry designer. I've been lucky to use many of her pieces for editorials and they truly steal the show every time. You can view all her work here. The shots below were part of her most recent look book and shot by Wilkosz & Way and modelled by Calgary's It girl Ania Boniecka.
